Don’t show up hungover, or even a bit tired or glaikit to Baba Brinkman's Rap Guide to Religion. His cerebral hip hop, complete with Venn diagrams and home-made infographics, requests your full attention please, as he takes his audience on a geeky, science nerd tour of world religions, examining secular humanism, philosophical magicalism, Darwinism and something called ‘teleology’ through the unlikely medium of rap.

It feels part Ted Talk, part wigger rap battle, as he postures and spits his way through topics including rappers’ obsession with deities (see JayHovah, Yeezus and Eminem’s Rap God alter-ego for evidence), and his own genealogy – he reckons his Scottish presbyterian great grandfather, a minister who emigrated to Canada, is partly to blame for his hip hop habit – claiming he has ‘a preacher’s blood with a science brain.’

Pop culture clips (Ghost, Freaky Friday, Bieber at the Oscars) are thrown in to balance the philosophical ruminations with snackier, lighter ingredients, but even with Rick Ross appreciation sections, and quick games with gang signs, lesser mortals might find it hard to keep up.
