In the post-Oasis divorce no-one would have expected Liam Gallagher to walk away with custody of the rest of the band. Another surprise was Liam getting material out before Noel. Proving their work ethic Beady Eye return to Scotland for round two, after their live debut in March at the Barras.

The crowd is the same, the attitude’s the same, the band’s almost the same, but there’s no real anthems (yet). Even with everyone singing along to ‘The Roller’ or ‘Millionaire’ it never really soars like ‘Supersonic’ or ‘Roll With It’. However it’s impossible to deny Liam’s a magnetic frontman, prowling the stage like a predator and ducking hurled pints like a prize fighter when he’s not glued to the mic hands clasped behind his back, pausing from time to time to soak up the chants of ‘Liam!, Liam! Liam!’ or ‘Beady, Beady, Beady fuckin’ Eye’.

They look more relaxed than they have in years, with Gem Archer adding a few nice guitar flourishes to their Beatles-esque indie rock. Liam steadfastly sticking to his ‘no Oasis numbers’ rule, though they end with their now customary World of Twist cover ‘Sons of the Stage.’ A solid show from one of rock’s great performers but they need a few more great tunes to match his towering stage presence.
