Tiplists

These are the restaurants, cafés and bakeries that get top marks from us for dishing out good grub from the crack of dawn. Some have been chosen for successfully curing a hangover with their fry ups, some for their healthy, energy boosting dishes and others for getting that mellow, first-thing-in-the-morning ambience, just right.

Contini George Street
They serve a stunning breakfast here 6 days a week – the bacon-stuffed focaccia rolls are a firm favourite – with an additional brunch menu on Sundays.

Dishoom
Breakfast every day until just before noon – their bacon naan roll is fast becoming the stuff of legend, or try the equally lush fried eggs on chilli cheese toast.

Finn & Bear
This Shore newcomer is from the same stable as the Pantry, so you'll know their brunch game is strong – breakfast runs till noon daily, and there's an all-day brunch at weekends.

The Ivy on the Square
Brunch is served till 4pm at the weekends in this high-end see-and-be-seen city centre newcomer.

Loudons Café & Bakery
Their all-day weekend brunch is a guaranteed hangover killer – they're licenced too if the only way to get over it is to get back on it.

Ostara
Brunch is served all day, every day – it's a perfect stopping-off point after a walk down the Water of Leith.
