Best culinary events at this year's Glasgow Restaurant Festival
A selection of food-flavoured happenings taking place over the month
Considering the abundance of festivals taking place across Scotland each year, it's surprising that we're only now about to see the first ever city-wide Glasgow Restaurant Festival. This celebration of culinary culture features a whole month of foodie fun, with some of the city's biggest culinary names taking part. Here we present a bite-sized chunk from their extensive programme.
Secret Dining
A celebration of food, music and, er, crazy golf. Hosted within the splendid Spiegeltent in Candleriggs Square, up to 200 diners get to enjoy dishes from a secret menu, all washed down with drinks from a fully-stocked bar.
Spiegeltent, Candleriggs Square, Fri 25 to Thu 31 Mar, midday to 10pm, £5 for entry and welcome drink. Dishes cost £6–£9.
Pop-Up Dining
Each day a different pop-up restaurant sets up shop within the Spiegeltent for a culinary adventure. Highlights include steak specialists Porter and Rye teaming up with Gamba (UK Seafood Restaurant of the Year) to pair up meat with fish; the Scottish Macaroni Appreciation Society (of course such a thing exists – this is Scotland) aiming 'to crown the ultimate Mac'; and Marco Pierre White cosying up with Two Fat Ladies.
Spiegeltent, Candleriggs Square, Fri 1 to Sun 17 Apr, midday to 10pm, £5 for entry and welcome drink, plus live entertainment (including crazy golf, natch). Set menus cost £15–£25.
Dining in the City
For its final week, the festival hosts a chance to sample specially priced menus at over 60 restaurants across Glasgow.
Various venues, 25 Mar–24 Apr, times and prices vary.
