Scottish electronica band Boards Of Canada (brothers Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin) have released a song, ‘Tape 05’, their first new music since 2013 album Tomorrow’s Harvest. It follows a report from Resident Advisor earlier this month detailing how a select few fans had recently received unsolicited, mysterious VHS tapes from the band’s record label, Warp Records, suggesting that something was afoot, most likely new music or a remastered album. It was all part of a broader ARG (alternate reality game) in keeping with the release of the band’s previous album, and speculation was rife that a new music release was imminent.

Last year, an old website previously used to collate clues about Boards Of Canada was revived with a message stating “nobody home…” followed by the same words in Morse code. More recently, posters reminiscent of their 1998 album, Music Has The Right To Children, appeared in cities around the world, followed by a carousel of the same on Warp Records' Instagram account.

Whether or not the new release is part of an album or other project is not yet known, although it's worth noting that it's been released just two days before Record Store Day.
