Poor Jack. His family are going through a bit of a rough financial time, selling off their wares to make ends meet. At his lowest point, he finds a guy on the street selling ‘magic beans’, and before you know it he’s in too deep with the whole business. He has to battle baddies, defend his territory and do things he could never imagine just to come out alive. Swap magic beans for crystal meth, and you’ve pretty much got the story of Breaking Bad.

This element of familiarity might come in handy for Vince Gilligan then, as it’s been reported that the Breaking Bad creator is developing Disney’s live-action version of Jack and the Beanstalk. Also working on the adaptation is writer Tom Schnauz, who was a regular collaborator on Gilligan’s multi award-winning series.

Both Gilligan and Schnauz have been busy recently, cooking up the Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul, and though it’s still too soon to predict exactly how the storyline will play out, Deadline are reporting that the film will feature a ‘revisionist’ take on the well-known tale.

Since we’ve got a while to wait, you’ll have to get your Disney fix elsewhere. Might we suggest looking into the live-action remakes of Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo and the Jungle Book?
