Queen guitarist Brian May is close to completing a doctorate in astrophysics, more than 35 years since he started his studies. The 60 year-old rock star arrived in the Canary Islands several days ago in a bid to complete his PhD. His astronomical observations will complete the thesis entitled ‘Radical Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud’. May abandoned a career in academia after meeting singer Freddie Mercury and drummer Roger Taylor at London’s Imperial College in 1970.
