The Blackbird

37–39 Leven Street, Edinburgh
If you’ve been to The Blackbird before, you already know that the Bruntsfield spot has an excellent outside space, great drinks and a wonderful team. It’s also recently had a facelift and is looking fabulous: same spot, fresh look, new menu. That’s an excuse for a return visit next time the sun appears.

Herringbone

1–3 Westgate, North Berwick
Just half an hour by train from Edinburgh, beautiful North Berwick is sandwiched between countryside and coast. There are many good spots, but Herringbone has great food, quality local beers and decent cocktails after a day exploring the outdoors.

Ubiquitous Chip

12 Ashton Lane, Glasgow
An absolute institution: if you haven’t been to the Chip, then you simply must. The Wee Chip is a great spot to drop by for a malt, while the larger space is part-restaurant, part-botanical garden. The food is top-tier but don’t skip the cocktails or rooftop either.
