Nestled on the top floor of a double-decker bus, Carl Donnelly holds the gathered throng in awe. A gifted storyteller, he looks very much at home in these intimate surroundings which are perfectly suited to his brand of confessional yarn-spinning.

Donnelly is very open about his long-running struggles with mental health and he candidly charts his highs and lows over the years. Without glossing over the severity of his illness, he still always finds great humour from the difficult situations he's found himself in. It's all in service to the main story: a brilliant anecdote detailing how he twice ended up taking the profoundly mind-bending hallucinogen DMT, ingested via a tea brewed from the bark of a Peruvian tree. Sitting on a bus while a stranger tells you about the time they did some drugs might sound tedious, but Donnelly brings these tales to life with great humour and meticulous detail, particularly when describing the convoluted process required to extract the drug from the bark. He veers off on a few tangents including sections on conspiracy theorists, his middle-class guilt, and the profoundly awkward relationship he has with his mother, but there's absolutely no filler here.

A two-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, Carl Donnelly has grown over the years to become a supremely confident and warm-hearted comedian. He's a natural raconteur and it's a pleasure to spend an hour in thrall to his talent.
