Cast announced for Midsummer, set to premiere at Edinburgh International Festival

National Theatre of Scotland's heart-warming production will star Henry Pettigrew, Sarah Higgins, Benny Young and Eileen Nicholas
The cast has been announced for the National Theatre of Scotland's new version of Midsummer, set to premiere at this year's Edinburgh International Festival.
Henry Pettigrew, Sarah Higgins, Benny Young and Eileen Nicholas will all star in David Greig and and Gordon McIntyre's heart-warming love-letter to Edinburgh, directed by Kate Hewitt. The new production expands on the original play with the inclusion of musical numbers, performed by a live band.
The story follows the adventures of Bob and Helena, as they get lost in an Edinburgh weekend of wedding bust ups, midnight trysts and hungover self-loathing. Examining how stories change over time, and how people use them to make sense of their relationships, Midsummer explores the themes of love and memory.
First staged at the Traverse Theatre in 2008 before touring internationally afterwards, it's a welcome return for a brilliant romantic comedy. Director Kate Hewitt said: 'It's a pleasure to be able to work on this new version of Midsummer, bringing together a brilliant cast, band, and creative team for the show's spiritual homecoming to Edinburgh.'
Midsummer's Music Director Gordon McIntyre continued: 'I'm delighted to be working with Kate on this new version of the play and working on new interpretations of the songs and the music. I feel lucky to have the chance to return to and live in the world of Midsummer for a second time and I am excited about the possibilities for this show.'
Midsummer is at the The Hub from Sat 4–Sun 26 Aug. Tickets are available now.
