Raymond Gubbay's Christmas Festival promises festive classics, film scores, show tunes and more

With a return to a relatively normal festive season something we're all hoping for, this year's Christmas is set to feel like a special one. And what better way to really spruce things up than bagging yourself tickets for some very exciting events. Raymond Gubbay's Christmas Festival will be serving up generous, Christmas dinner-sized helpings of festive fun alongside some epic and toe-tapping entertainment, with no less than Glasgow Royal Concert Hall hosting.

The aptly named Christmas Spectacular kicks things off on Monday 20 December and promises to be an absolute cracker of a show. West End vocalists Tim Howar (currently co-fronting Mike + The Mechanics) and Kerry Ellis (best known for her award-winning work playing Elphaba in Wicked) will be delighted to deliver all your favourite seasonal tunes, including 'Merry Christmas Everyone', 'Frosty the Snowman' and 'Jingle Bell Rock'. They'll be joined by a full orchestra and the all-star, high-kicking Jingle Belles dancers, while stunning lighting and special effects will add further festive razzle dazzle.

The Music of Zimmer vs Williams on Tuesday 28 December is a must for both film fans and those who like their classical music big, bold and unforgettable. As the title suggests, it celebrates the best musical scores from cinematic legends Hans Zimmer and John Williams, with Gladiator, Inception, Man Of Steel, Pirates Of The Caribbean and The Dark Knight Rises amongst the greatest hits of the former, and Superman, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and ET amongst the finest music from the latter. Get comfortable and let conductor Michael Bawtree and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra take you on a tour of your favourite movie moments.

Alternatively, nothing says Christmas like a bit of big band and the Glenn Miller Orchestra will be on hand on Wednesday 29 December to make your Christmas swing, as they play Glenn Miller's own arrangements of favourite wartime chart-toppers and 1940s hits, with 'In the Mood', 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' and 'Little Brown Jug' in the mix. Esteemed band leader Ray McVay will be directing, with special guests The Swing Time Jivers joining the fun, and the orchestra performing the second half of the show in vintage US army Air Force uniforms.

If you love your musicals, be they West End or big screen, then show-stopping concert The Greatest Show Tunes should be just the ticket. It's on a national tour, stopping off at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Thursday 30 December. A quartet of well-known West End performers – Ben Forster (Jesus Christ Superstar), Danielle Hope (The Wizard of Oz), John Owen-Jones (Les Miserables) and Karen Mav (Dreamgirls) – will be belting out songs from Grease, We Will Rock You, Chicago, The Greatest Showman, West Side Story, Mamma Mia, Cats, Jersey Boys, La La Land, and more, accompanied by the Scottish Concert Orchestra.

The legendary Glasgow Royal Concert Hall is situated right in the heart of Glasgow city centre. The home of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, it boasts an impressive and imposing main auditorium that has provided the setting for numerous unforgettable cultural events. The festival's organiser Raymond Gubbay Ltd is renowned for promoting and producing some of the most popular shows, illuminated trails, classical concerts, opera, ballet and special events in both the UK and overseas, regularly presenting over 500 performances each year, and selling over a million and a half tickets.
