‘My mum says I have LBS. That’s Lucky Bastard Syndrome.’ They reckon you make your own luck in this life, but Lesley Sloss (mother-manager of Daniel, the young Fife comic making his full Fringe debut at the age of 18), knows that fortune can only take a person so far. Blagging his way onto the stage during Fringe Sunday and Mama Sloss attending a conference Frankie Boyle was performing at certainly smacks of right family in the right place at the right time, but pushing through those golden opportunities has helped Sloss turn into a genuine future star of Scottish stand-up.

It’s the stuff of comedy legend that he has been writing jokes for his ginger mentor on Mock the Week, but now he’s striking out on his own. Teenage Kicks is the title of his debut solo hour and should platform the caustic humour he inherited from his mum and dad (Martyn, a techno-geek whose gadgets have appeared on Robot Wars). ‘I learned sarcasm from a very young age,’ recalls Sloss. ‘We will rip the shit out of each other but there’s never a moment when I think “oh no, my parents have hurt me”, I’m more like, “what can I say to put them down”?’
