Compagnia Baccalà: Oh Oh circus review – Mesmerising and masterful stunts
Skipping their way into an audience’s affections, this acrobatic duo are technically admirable and joyfully silly

Concocted by a pair of runaway circus performers, Oh, Oh is the latest offering from the award-winning acrobatic pair, Simone Fassari and Camilla Pessi, known as Compagnia Baccalà. Combining tricks, stunts and musical feats with family-friendly slapstick inspired by Charlie Chaplin, this is a mysterious mime show with a difference. From the beginning we encounter giggle-inducing physical comedy and traditional jokes from the duo, filled with cheeky facial expressions as they wordlessly skirmish and skip their way into the audience’s hearts.
As we progress through the comedy part of their act we are treated to a musical interlude before the acrobatic segment really kicks in, with a stunningly mellow dance between the performers which is as delightful to look at as it is technically admirable. The musicality and cohesion continue to evolve, finishing the show with a simple novelty spat which ends in a combination of aerial stunts that is entirely mesmerising. Creating a captivating atmosphere on stage, Pessi and Fassari ensure this hour is full of fun moments of silliness, a mastery of mime and circus skills. It is the perfect show to take the kids to for a playful afternoon at the Fringe.
