Daisy Doris May: Big Night Out comedy review – Enjoyable eccentricities
The character comedian brings three of her favourite characters to the Fringe in this fun hour

Daisy Doris May brings three of her best-known characters to her Big Night Out: Häns Off, The Divine Karen Moonstone and, of course, Steve Porters. As Häns makes his bold entrance from the back of the room, vaping directly in several faces, it’s clear that neither he nor any of us ‘bishes’ are on ‘ze guestlist’ to get into the club. The follow-up audience interaction (recruiting impromptu fashion designers and models) is fun but feels tacked on rather than fully integrated. Next up is The Divine Karen Moonstone, an Australian spiritual guru with an obsession for leaving Google reviews. She riffs with the audience on everything from WhatsApp groups to diarrhoea. While the character risks feeling a little one-note and stereotypical, the weekend audience enjoys her eccentricities.
Last is Steve Porters, who already seems to have some fans in the room. A cross between Dapper Laughs and Jay from The Inbetweeners, Steve is on a stag do for his best friend (conveniently seated in the audience). The characterisation is excellent and his physical mannerisms are spot on. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see more of Steve, who is easily the strongest of the three.
