Scots pop rockers Deacon Blue have been announced as the first act to play in a series of live concerts at Aintree Racecourse Liverpool. The band will take to the stage in May after a six race card for the racecourse's inaugural Evening at the Races.

The Glaswegian band have been around since 1985 and have sold over six million albums, including 1989's When the World Knows Your Name and 1994's Our Town, both of which made number one. Despite a five year hiatus when the group split in 1994, they're still going strong and have released two albums since 2012. Fans should expect to see the group play hits including 'Real Gone Kid', 'Fergus Sings the Blues' and 'Dignity'.

'We’re really looking forward to seeing our North West fans,' said Deacon Blue. 'It’s a real treat to be performing a headline open air show after evening racing!'

Deacon Blue play Aintree Racecourse Liverpool on Fri 13 May. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Fri 22 Jan.
