The country trio will play Birmingham, Manchester, London and Glasgow

The Dixie Chicks announced today that they will tour Europe in 2016. The self-described ‘superstars, renegades, innovators’ will kick off their tour in Amsterdam on Wed Apr 20, then take in Birmingham, Manchester, London, Glasgow and Dublin over the course of almost a month on a new arena tour.

The trio, comprising Martie Maguire, Emily Robison and Natalie Maines, were formed in Texas back in 1989, but it was another 10 years before they become commercially known, thanks to hits ‘There’s Your Trouble’ and ‘Wide Open Spaces’.

With a reputation as feisty and outspoken, the group courted controversy in 2003 when, at a London concert just days before the invasion of Iraq, lead singer Maines spoke up about their views on the war: ‘We don’t want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.’ Although their British audience reacted positively, this statement led to boycotts back in the US and public destruction of the group’s records.

Despite this, The Dixie Chicks have been one of the most successful country bands of all time, earning multi-platinum status in North America, Europe and Australia. Both Wide Open Spaces and Fly achieved Diamond Status (given to albums that have sold over 10 million copies), and the group have won 13 Grammy Awards.

Dick Chicks 2016 tour dates include:
Heineken Music Hall, Amsterdam – 20 Apr
Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham – 29 Apr
Manchester Arena, Manchester – 30 Apr
O2 Arena, London – 1 May
SSE Hydro, Glasgow – 3 May
