Duns Play Fest rolls out programme for latest celebration of the arts

Duns Play Fest has announced a full programme of new theatre in its latest celebration of emerging projects. Now in its sixth incarnation, this latest line-up will include more than 100 performances, all of which will take place in the small border town of Duns.

Mostly held in its festival hub, Duns Volunteer Hall, performers include Edinburgh Fringe up-and-comers Tatty Pants Theatre Company, who’ll perform a staged reading of their play The Stress Fracture, about a disillusioned union representative given a seemingly open-and-shut case, only to doubt the fairness of proceedings as the disciplinary investigation proceeds. This is the third staged reading from the company, as part of its Play Development Programme.

Other highlights include Carnivale Crazy, an entertaining hour of physical theatre; the radio play Send For Temple Paul Again; Note of Concern, which questions whether old friendships are best left dead and buried; and an expansive music programme which includes Kirsty Law, Zimbro, Susanna Orr Holland, Biff Giff Femme, and a variety of other grassroots performers.

Expanding its community underpinnings, Duns Play Fest will also feature a number of drop-in sessions, forums, open mic nights, and a closing party.

A representative for Duns Play Fest told us: ‘It’s the festival that makes budding playwrights’ dreams come true, and gives audiences an opportunity to feast on nine days of cutting-edge new theatre in the Borders. Nine days of the best in new writing from the Borders and beyond, written and performed by a variety of seasoned professionals, early-career artists and first-rate community theatre companies. Top that with a liberal helping of music, poetry, film, writing workshops and children’s events and you have a pretty amazing festival.’
