Critically acclaimed comedians Amy Gledhill and Chris Cantrill, the brains behind the award-winning duo The Delightful Sausage (pictured above), will return with the second series of their surreal improvised comedy series Icklewick FM. The series will be available as a box set on BBC Sounds from Friday 29 August, and will air on BBC Radio 4 on Saturdays at 11pm, starting on Saturday 30 August.
Icklewick FM is a show about fictional community radio station Icklewick FM, ‘a lightning rod for the oddballs, big heads and concerned mums of a modern British post-industrial town.’ The first series was described in Chortle as ‘one of the most monumental experiences of the year.’ Reviewer Tim Harding went on to add ‘it successfully synthesises the quicksilver quality of live improvisation… I wish this would come out every week forever.’
We’re big fans of The Delightful Sausage, giving them five stars in 2022 and calling them ‘a comedy duo with a knack for eccentric one-liners, delectably weird set-ups and an oddball eye for storytelling.’
The Delightful Sausage has twice been nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award. Gledhill and Cantrill have also both been nominated for the award, with Gledhill winning in 2024 with her show Make Me Look Fit On The Poster. We reviewed the show, writing, ‘Gledhill is a gags-to-the-fore stand-up, reeling out anecdotes on her own perceived inadequacies with the build and pace of someone who makes their hour-long show feel like a tight ten. This crackling hour proves why she’s worked her way to become one of the most in-demand comics on the circuit.’

Ahead of the release of the new series this week, Gledhill said: ‘We can’t wait to finally unleash these six episodes. It’s bigger, bolder and way madder than series one.’ Cantrill added: ‘I can’t believe some of the stuff we got away with.’
Joining Gledhill and Cantrill on Icklewick FM are a huge range of Fringe favourites and household names. Names include Vicki Pepperdine, Tom Lawrinson, Jin Hao Li and Molly McGuinness. Joe Kent-Walters and Sharon Wanjohi are also joining the cast. We gave both of them four stars at this year's Fringe, saying that Kent-Walters’s ‘ghoulish character act proves that last year’s award-winning hour wasn’t a one-off,’ and describing Wanjohi’s In The House as ‘a candid and hilarious hour.’
Favourite voices are also returning from the first series of Icklewick FM, including Mark Silcox (who we’ve never reviewed well, but let’s ignore that for now), Lucy Beaumont and Phil Ellis, whose children's Fringe show Funz And Gamez Rebootz won the Best Kids Show award at The List Festival Awards.
Radio 4 comedy commissioner Julia McKenzie said: ‘Bursting with a host of unhinged characters, a tonne of fresh comic ideas and a clear indication that medical intervention may be necessary, this show has already got a cult-like status amongst its fans, and I am very proud of it. I can’t wait for series two to land – let the chaos commence!’
