The Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is set to return to Scotland’s capital this summer in scaled-back form.

The announcement comes after months of uncertainty for the festival, when the Centre For The Moving Image (CMI) which funds it was forced to call in administrators last October. The CMI blamed rising costs and a reduce in profits for its closure, which included the loss of more than a hundred staff and the closure of Edinburgh’s Filmhouse and Aberdeen’s Belmont Filmhouse. 

Organised by Screen Scotland, Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), this 76^th edition of the festival will run from Friday 18-Wednesday 23 August with a celebration of international and grassroots filmmakers in a reduced programme.

‘I'm excited to deliver the ideas that the team and I have been working on over the past few months and be a custodian for this year's programme, ensuring the flame of EIFF burns bright, and I can't wait to welcome audiences to enjoy the curated selection of films we'll be presenting in August.’
