Max McElligott prepares for debut release Suego Faults and UK tour
Multi-instrumentalist Max McElligott, otherwise known as Wolf Gang, spent a good chunk of his childhood living in Scotland. If you've not heard of him yet, his single 'Dancing With The Devil' is probably a good intro: an infectious electro-indie pop number that screeches summer fun. Wolf Gang is preparing for his debut release Suego Faults on July 25 (Atlantic Records) along with a headlining tour and festival slots at RockNess and T in the Park. The List caught up with him for a chat…
So, why the name 'Wolf Gang'?
I wanted to have a band-type name and didn’t want to use my real name. Firstly, because no one would ever know how to spell my last name but I also have an interest in different kinds of music. In five years time, I might want to do something different and give that a different name so it leaves me open to that.
You're playing a few Scottish dates this summer. Does it feel like a home away from home for you?
I lived there from six until I left school at about 18, so the formative years. I have had quite a disjointed childhood so I think that is the place I would call home out of all the places I have been.
Are you looking forward to RockNess?
I’ve heard amazing things about RockNess and it is a beautiful location. Then there is T in the Park as well; it is going to be messy but fun! We did King Tuts a few months back and that was great, in Glasgow, but that is the only Scottish gig we’ve done. It will be nice to just go out and play some gigs in Scotland.
Which artists influence you?
I like all the classic stuff, I don’t listen to the radio, so stuff like Bowie, Fleetwood Mac. I love Kate Bush and The Beatles obviously. Anybody who has written amazing songs basically.
What can people expect to hear on Suego Faults
It is quite diverse – a good, feel-good, summery album.
