Following the somewhat dramatic onstage collapse of support act Jo Rose (a fair enough solo singer-songwriter who, thankfully, turned out to be alright), you could forgive Swedish alt.country outfit First Aid Kit for being out of sorts for a few moments of this gig, the first of their current UK tour. After opening strong with ‘Stay Gold’, the title track of their new album, they miss a line in ‘My Silver Lining’, and pining lullaby ‘In the Hearts of Men’ is ditched entirely after a fluffed intro (a crying shame for this reviewer as its one of his favourites).

Still, these turn out to be minor hiccups in an otherwise flawless performance. The vast ceilings of Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket are acoustically perfect for sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg’s entirely unplugged ‘Ghost Town’ (with lovely choral backing from the Glasgow audience), while covers of Paul Simon’s ‘America’ and Jack White’s ‘Love Interruption’ go down a storm. Closing their set proper with an almost psychedelic, headbanging rendition of ‘The Lion’s Roar’ (and capping their encore with the evergreen ‘Emmylou’), the Söderberg sisters leave a Glasgow audience assured of their ability to stay gold.
