You shouldn't have to endure the high street masses to find Christmas gifts for friends and family, we reckon the best presents can be found at any one of the excellent independent markets around Edinburgh and Glasgow. Here we pick out five of our favourites …
Bohemia Sparkly Festive Fair
Thirty-five stalls selling original handmade items. There's art by Rona Innes, new designs from Rainbeau Jewellery and unique wreaths by Forget-Me-Not Flower Farm as well as photographic prints, knits and Harris tweed bags. Dogs are welcome and there's an on-site café selling gourmet hot chocolate and mince pies.

3D / 2D Christmas Craft, Art & Design Fair
Over 120 makers, artists and designers selling their own work. Exhibitors are selected for their quality and originality and stock everything from budget stocking fillers to lavish gifts.

Etsy Made Local Glasgow
Avoid the postage and package fee and pick up unique handmade gifts from over 60 local makers, crafters and artists in person. Shop Scots slang jewellery from Bonnie Bling, Harris tweed accessories featuring embroidered animals from Canny Squirrel, comic art by Neil Slorance and graphic print bags by Laura Spring.

The Braw Wee Fair @ BAaD
Record and gift shop The Braw Wee Emporium host their monthly fair selling folk, jazz and acoustic music not available in mainstream shops. There's also homewares from Upcycle Scotland, funky gifts and cards from Doris Does Doodles and screen-printed hoodies and tees from Graffiti Clothing. Refuel in the Barras Art and Design cafe.

Little Birds Market
This regular market gets a festive makeover with over 25 stalls across two floors in Glasgow's oldest pub and restaurant. Small businesses sell handmade products including jewellery, homewares and vintage items.
