Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The Christmas of August, it comes round faster every year. Wouldn't you know it – you can already buy tickets to a whole host of shows. Gilded Balloon and the Pleasance are leading the way with early sales (some have even sold out: looking at you My Dad Wrote a Porno) so here are some shows you might want to jump on while you still can.

Charlotte Church's Late Night Pop Dungeon
The 'dank dungeon bitch' will bring her Late Night Pop Dungeon to Summerhall as part of Nothing Ever Happens Here. The show will be coming off the back of a wee UK tour, and promises that the 'Grand High Executionatrix and her ten-piece ultra-metronomic post-punk-disco-R'n'R'n'B backing band' will set the dancefloor on fire with big dirty covers of the best – and most forgotten – songs of yore.

James Acaster: The Trelogy
The five-time Edinburgh Comedy Awards nominee has well and truly earned his place in the 'one to watch' lists. Come along to watch a comedian at the top of his game, and not just because this year might be The Year. He's presenting a trilogy of former shows this time round: Recognise (2014), Represent (2015) and Reset (2016).

Luisa Omielan: The Interlude – Politics for Bitches / Mary Magdalene Do?!
Previous shows, Am I Right Ladies?! and What Would Beyonce Do?! won Luisa fans and admirers thanks to her straight-talking, relatable comedic style. We're still waiting for the third in that trilogy (apparently it'll be called Famous with a Baby … ) but for now, Omielan's bringing her comedy chops to chat about politics (for bitches).

Richard Herring: Oh Frig, I'm 50!
The King of Edinburgh (our words, not his) is back after giving Edinburgh a rest for a few years. On this, his 30th Fringeversary, he presents his 40th show about turning 50. And that's Numberwang. Expect a solid hour of silliness, seriousness, and damn good comedy.

Butt Kapinski
Deanna Fleysher returns with her genius creation, private eye Butt Kapinski who is utterly inept at his chosen profession. This year, Butt's allowing the audience to aid him, in a choose-your-own-adventure, film noir style, immersive show.
