Periodic Table of Edinburgh

Priorities

I'm sitting in my living room. My good friend and fantastic upcoming comedian Michael Kossew is using my "Interactive Periodic Table of Edinburgh"

"How long did this take you to make Yianni?"

"Um…Well first I had to write the original periodic table of the elements. Then I had to think of Edinburgh equivalents for each of them. Then I had to program all of the interactivity of each of the 117 buttons into Flash individually"

"So how long?"

I shrug my shoulders. "I couldn't put a figure on it"

I'm sitting with my girlfriend Holli. She's not just an awesome girlfriend; she's an amazing artist in her own right. She drew a picture of my face out of words for my poster. We're planning our daily "happenings" which accompany my show. The happenings are a series of fun, light-hearted, life affirming events such as face painting, balloon animals, bubble blowing and a portable limbo competition. They're on at 13:30 every day.

Holli muses, "How long have we spent on this?"

I shake my head. "Forever!"

I'm on Potterrow near the Pleasance Dome admiring my handiwork, a 3 page newspaper spoofing the Fringe called the "Edinburgh Evening Oooohs" that I've written and had printed on three massive 6 foot by 4 foot posters.

A stranger is also reading it. He sees my photo on Page 1, looks over, sees me and asks, "Is that you pal?"

"Yes" I reply.

"It's good. How long did it take you to make it?"

"Oh, I wrote it over a couple of months. I had to write the articles, think up the equations, take the photos, do everything really."

"So how long?"

I shrug my shoulders. "I honestly couldn't tell you"

"But you're doing a show too?", he asks.

"Yes" I respond. "It's called 'Things that make you go 'Ooooh!' It's on at 4:15pm at Sin Nightclub and it's FREE'" I quip informatively, aware that the conversation might later end up in a blog.

"So how long have you spent writing your show?"

I firmly shoot back "4 hours"

Please come and see my show. I've spent ages promoting it.

*Please note that comedian has actually spent a lot of time writing his show

Yianni: Things That Make You Go 'Oooooh!' Sin Club and Lounge, 8-27 Aug, 4.15, free.
