Another day, another festival announcement, and today North Berwick's very own Fringe By the Sea announces it's 2019 programme. This year's programme packs in 160 music, comedy, kids, books and films events into the seaside town over 10 days from Friday 2–Sunday 11 August. Although there may be no promise of sun, there will be lashings of stellar entertainment all by the picturesque setting of the North Sea.

Topping the bill is Groove Armada who will play a DJ set at the Simpson & Marwick Spiegeltent on Thursday 8 August, bringing their established cross-genre dance anthems. Scottish indie legends Idlewild and Dundee's electro-pop gal Be Charlotte are also set to play (Fri 9 August) as part of The List by the Sea Party. Other musical talents to be showcasing at the programme are MALKA, Cuban Brothers, Major Minor Music Club with C Duncan and Christine Bovill with the best of jazz.

For its comedy strand, the festival will save some of the biggest names in comedy from the madness of Edinburgh's Fringe to provide laughs and banter. They welcome the multi-award winning American Reginald D Hunter; veteran comic Fred MacAulay; Radio 4 regular Simon Evans; 'Scotland's premier blind comedian' Jamie MacDonald; and prolific Glaswegian Janey Godley.

Bookworm's won't be left out either with appearances from Newsnight's Kirsty Wark, Sue Lawrence and John Niven, who will all discuss their newest book releases. The festival also welcomes big names for its talk series, which features Alexander McCall Smith and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown in conversation with Lord David Steel.

The festival's kids selection is also bursting with events with appearances from children's authors Debi Gilori and Charlotte Lo, dinosaur expert Dr Ben Garrod, Mr Boom, Alexander the Great and the Monski Mouse Baby Disco. A crèche will be available for parents so that they can catch events whilst the kids play.

Other highlights are the programme of Scottish films screened at the community centre, a showcase of Scotland's best food and drink producers, wellness sessions from Barefoot Sanctuary and environmental talks from the Scottish Seabird Centre.

Festival Director Niall Middleton commented: 'This is a programme to bring people to North Berwick to see and hear some of the best entertainment talent around. We are especially proud of the huge amount of Scottish performers who are coming and look forward to 10 days of sun, sea and fun.'
