Frisky’s Remix Roulette comedy review: Constant fun
Frisky dazzles with a hilarious show, a peerless voice and a mind-blowingly unique approach to improv
In a just world, TV producers would be falling over themselves to commission Frisky’s Remix Roulette as an hour-long, primetime Saturday night singalong. Emanating big-night-out energy, Frisky is the vibrant, double entendre-spilling cabaret singer with a peerless vocal range and a DayGlo outfit that makes the new rave-era look tame by comparison. With suggestions from the crowd, she ‘remixes’ songs live with her prodigiously talented band, alighting anywhere from lounge jazz to Gregorian chanting.
Her almost deceptively simple set-up proves malleable enough to provide constant possibility, and watching Frisky delight at the unexpected choices from the crowd proves to be part of the fun. It’s impossible to resist her arf-arf energy as she segues between reggae to techno on Spice Girls ‘2 Become 1’ or storms a classical interpretation of DJ Badboy’s expletive-laden ‘Friday Nite’. Like any good host, she appears to have an eagle eye for game participants, finding moments for many in the crowd to become stars. With Frisky already a Fringe veteran, it’s clear that plenty of audience members are delighted repeat customers. She’s courted a fanbase for good reason; with fresh suggestions every night, the potential for new surprises is never far off.
