Spring is in the air. The sun is shining. Let’s all stay indoors and play games. There are plenty of new titles to keep you occupied this month. Whether you are after some shooter action, handheld horror or old school platform gaming there is something to spark your interest.

Out this week is Wanted: Weapons of Fate (Warner Bros.) for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. It is a third-person shooter with slow motion gun play and bendy bullets and yes it is related to that Angelina Jolie film. For a movie tie in it is actually getting reasonable reviews but don’t expect anything too great.

Also out this week is Blast Works (Majesco) on the Wii. It is an inventive side-scrolling shooter with a fantastic set of powerful editing tools so you can create your own games. It has been out in the US for a few months already and the reviews are good.

On the 10th April there is more gangster action to look forward to as Godfather II (EA) guns its way onto the streets. It will be released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game-play promises a blend between top down strategy and on the streets GTA style action challenging you to expand the family business beyond New York to Florida and Cuba.

Another game due out on the 10th for Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS is Ultimate Band (Disney Interactive) which looks to be a rip off of Guitar Hero. Publisher Disney Interactive has gone for a family friendly approach as you play guitars, drums and bass with your existing controllers. The reviews are bad so you might want to give this one a miss.

Dementium: The Ward (Gamecock Media) comes out for the Nintendo DS on the 17th April and it looks worth getting. You just don’t see many first-person survival horrors on the Nintendo DS so don’t pass up the chance to scare everyone on the bus.

Also on the 17th there is CID The Dummy (Oxygen Interactive), a platformer with a crash test dummy as the central character which is coming out for the Wii, PS2, PC and the PSP. It looks like a cute adventure.

Later in the month Rock Band 2 (MTV Games) belatedly makes it onto the Wii along with Pikmin 2 (Nintendo). Make sure to avoid Rock Revolution on the PS3 because it is yet another sub-standard cash-in on the Guitar Hero phenomenon.

Finally on the 24th there’s a new instalment in the saga of Riddick entitled The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (Atari). Expect more sci-fi themed FPS action on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
