Gaming round-up: March 2009

This month is a quiet one for gamers everywhere but there are a few great titles finally the hitting the shop floor. We have dogfights over Europe, zombies, Empire building, getaway driving and big sweaty men in Lycra. Games are notorious for last minute delays but all of these titles should be available to buy this month.
First on the list is the latest real-time strategy game from developers Creative Assembly. Empire: Total War (Sega) is due out on the 6th March for the PC. Set in the 18th century the game focuses on the usual blend of turn-based conquest and real-time battle we’ve come to know and love. There are all kinds of new developments to get you hooked and most exciting of all is the inclusion of naval battles. Single ships or vast fleets can now fight upon the high seas in glorious 3D.
Sticking with history if you like your flight simulations then keep an eye out for Heroes Over Europe (Atari). The game casts you in the role of an allied fighter pilot in World War II defending London and then attacking Berlin in a series of chaotic dogfights. It is also due out on the 6th March and will be available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC.
On the 13th March there is the long awaited Resident Evil 5 (Capcom) and it looks absolutely fantastic. The game is set in a desert colony, the infected are carrying weapons and you have to escape. There is co-operative game-play available both on your local console and online so you can get bloody with a friend. The game looks truly next generation with some impressive visuals and it is sure to provide a few scares. It is rated 16 in the UK and will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Due on the 20th March is Legends of Wrestlemania (THQ) which allows gamers to relive the golden age of wrestling when characters like Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant ruled the ring. It’s a button masher for wrestling fans and it will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Slim pickings this month and last on the list is a movie tie-in called Wheelman (Ubisoft). Due to coincide with the Vin Diesel movie of the same name this promises to be a cinematic, adrenaline fuelled, thrill ride but we’ll reserve judgement because movie tie-ins are often terrible. It is due on the 27th March for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
