Generation: Nathan Coley, Zoe Walker, Rachel Maclean and Henry Coombes share their recommendations

The leading artists pick out prgramme highlights, including Luke Fowler and Beagles & Ramsay
Nathan Coley
‘Luke Fowler at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. I never really know what he’s up to, but it’s sure to be tough on the eye, hard on the heart, and heavy on the head: like all good art should be. In terms of the Portrait Gallery, Luke’s lifting from the past will surely find a fitting context.’
Luke Fowler is part of GENERATION, Scottish National Galleries, Edinburgh, Sat 28 Jun–Sun 2 Nov; Nathan Coley: The Lamp of Sacrifice, 286 Places of Worship, GoMA, Glasgow, Thu 15 May–Jan/Feb 2015.
Zoe Walker
‘If I was to pick out individual artists’ projects, I have to say I am really looking forward to seeing Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan’s new commission with Atlas Arts in Skye. As artists and an arts organisation, they both push the boundaries of what art can be.’
Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan: An experience being an experience like an experience you just had, Atlas Arts, Skye, Fri 1 Aug–Mon 1 Sep; Walker and Bromwich: Orcadia & Other Stories, Pier Arts Centre, Orkney, Sat 21 Jun–Sat 23 Aug.
Henry Coombes
‘I wait in anticipation for the work of Rachel Maclean, an erotic exotic dream world of the Scottish psyche. The history and culture of Scotland is delightfully spun like candy floss from Alex Salmond’s and Alistair Darling’s Georgian rumps.’
Rachel Maclean: Happy & Glorious, CCA, Glasgow, Sat 31 May–Sun 13 Jul; Henry Coombes is part of GENERATION, Scottish National Galleries, Edinburgh, Sat 28 Jun–Sun 2 Nov.
Rachel Maclean
‘I am most looking forward to seeing Beagles and Ramsay at the People’s Palace. I’ve always really enjoyed their work which is hilariously dark, creepy and playful. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for GENERATION.’
Beagles and Ramsay: Ventriloquist Dummies Double Self-Portrait, People’s Palace, Glasgow, Fri 27 Jun–Mon 29 Sep.
GENERATION: 25 Years of Contemporary Art in Scotland takes place in galleries across the country, beginning in March with others scheduled throughout the year.
