Glasgow Film Festival 2013 programme highlights
James Cagney retrospective, Mark Millar-curated programme and strand exploring Brazilian cinema
Glasgow Film Festival looks set to continue its mighty fine form this February, making a welcome return to the city, with screenings from around the globe. The three major strands of 2013's bumper line-up include a new project by Burnistoun writer-comedian Robert Florence, which looks at the big-screen appeal of video games; the Game Cats Go Miaow! programme will boast a live comedy/gaming/chat show with audience interaction, as well as a panel of experts reviewing new video game Aliens: Colonial Marines, before a showing of the Aliens movie.
Elsewhere, new Brazilian cinema is celebrated with a Buena Onda strand, featuring screenings of Xingu, Southwest (Sudoeste) and Neighbouring Sounds (O soma ao redor).
The ever-popular retrospective section returns to pay homage to Oscar-winning quintessential tough guy, James Cagney, with screenings of the truly great The Public Enemy, alongside critical and popular favourites Angels With Dirty Faces, The Roaring Twenties, Love Me Or Leave Me and White Heat.
Other strands for 2013 include Fashion In Film, showcasing celluloid trendsetters; Kapow at GFF, curated by comic writer Mark Millar; the ever-inventive Music and Film programme with live music events; Glasgow Short Film Festival; Glasgow Youth Film Festival; Crossing the Line, celebrating the visual arts scene; Best of British, looking at some of GB's finest; documentaries are represented in Stranger Than Fiction while Great Scots brings the best of home-grown talent and Eurovisions (as the name suggests) brings films from across Europe.
The full GFF programme will be revealed in January.
