Glasgow Short Film Festival announces line-up for 19th edition

Glasgow Short Film Festival (GSFF) will celebrate its 19th edition this year with another line-up of new work from GSFF regulars Duncan Cowles, Will Anderson, Miranda Stern, performance poet Leyla Coll-O'Reilly and Outlander actor Joanne Thomson, amongst others. Exploring themes of community, communication, migration, sex and death, the festival will take place from Wednesday 18-Sunday 22 March at Glasgow Film Theatre, Civic House and Grosvenor Picture Theatre.

Ranging from animation to live action and documentary, the centrepiece of the Festival is the Scottish Short Film Award, which awards its winner a £1,000 cash prize. The jury for this year’s competition features Luce Grosjean, founder and director of Miyu Distribution, the leading international distribution company for animated short films; Federica Pugliese, Artistic Director of Lago Film Festival, with experience across film programming, marketing and theatrical distribution; and Jen Davies, co-founder of Conic Films Ltd, which most recently distributed On Falling and Everybody to Kenmure Street. Scottish Competition screenings will be held exclusively at the Glasgow Film Theatre between Thursday 19-Sunday 22 March.

A few notable entries in the programme include Sleazy Tiger, a queer comedy with a special cameo from Alan Cumming; Static, a gritty drama from BAFTA winner Miranda Stern; and Existential Greg (pictured above), a charming animation about a Persian cat grappling with spiritual enlightenment.

Founded in 2008, GSFF has become a keystone of Scotland’s film calendar.
