Goodbear doesn't hold back on the promises. It bills itself as a 'character-led sketch show which contemplates the big issues: life, death, our very existence', and while that's certainly true, it's not all quite as philosophical as that would suggest. It starts with a mime to 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart', and thus the tone is set for an hour of endlessly funny high-energy silliness.

The first sketch is a little quiet, with the two main characters finding themselves in an unusual purgatory-esque environment, but the pace soon quickens and the following routines are well-executed, original and light enough to keep the audience laughing for an hour. Structurally, the show is intelligently pieced together with characters constantly revisited, so that what seems like a one-off joke actually forms part of a larger motif.

The Goodbear team of Joe Barnes and Henry Perryment have an infectious chemistry that drives the show forward. Whether they're playing lovers, co-pilots or young boys, the strength of this show comes from their ability to read each other's comic cues and play to their collective strengths. So by contemplating life, death and our very existence, will this show go breaking your heart? It couldn't if it tried.
