Di Giorgio

1 Brandon Terrace
There’s always a bit of buzz at this Italian-run café and the exposed-stone interior feels effortlessly grand. Sandwiches are full to bursting with garlicky mortadella, piquant salamis and gooey cheese; almost as substantial as the handmade pasta dishes. Espresso-style coffees are just the hit you want after a day at the Botanics.

Krem Karamel

68 Inverleith Row
Part bookshop, part café, this corner spot has a handful of outdoor seats that catch the mid-morning sun. Inside, pastel pinks and greens feel like stepping into a Wes Anderson film. Brunch classics like avocado toast and filled croissants dominate the savoury section, but the home baking is the highlight.

Mana Poke

Mana Poke

10 Rodney Street
For a grab-and-go bite, Mana Poke offers rice bowls topped with sushi-fresh fish (or tofu and avocado) with a rainbow of fresh veggie options. Mana Poke was big on the street food scene, winning accolades and awards for their Hawaiian-inspired bowls, and their permanent premises builds on that reputation.

The Orchard

1–2 Howard Place
A classic pub with big windows and a smattering of outdoor seats, The Orchard has been serving elevated gastro-pub fare for years. While fish and chips and steak pies are crowd-pleasers, goat's cheese soufflé and delicately pan-fried sea bass raise the food to restaurant level. There are plenty of real ales and craft beers on tap.

The Tollhouse

50 Brandon Terrace
Suspended above the Water of Leith, The Tollhouse is a fine-dining spot with a surprisingly laid-back feel. Dishes are seasonal and you’ll usually find a venison main course, perhaps paired with tart blackberries, or seared scallops with samphire. Signature cocktails can be enjoyed on the alfresco terrace by the babbling river.
