Ah, to be young in Auld Reekie. In addition to all of the usual activities on offer, such as trips to one of the city’s famous museums, parks or attractions, there are plenty of creative goings-on to keep the kids occupied during the school break.

Party animals aged 4–11 can attend a Pop Lock-In (Electric Circus, Sun 22 Feb), where resident DJs spin the latest chart tunes. In case all that Top 40-fuelled fun isn’t enough, there’s also a streetdance instructor, karaoke and jewellery making. While the kids are busting a move to the latest Taylor Swift number, parents can relax in a room with a licensed bar.

Every day’s a school day, right? Even at half-term, there are skills and knowledge to be acquired. At Zoom Club: Makers (Summerhall, Sundays), kids aged 8–12 can have a go at some hands-on animation and photography, at this club designed to help develop children’s individual creative voices.

Speaking of hands-on skills, young game enthusiasts will no doubt be excited to get their hands on one of 125 playable games at the National Museum of Scotland’s Game Masters exhibit (until Mon 20 Apr). In addition to the games, there are also displays of concept art, interactive displays and in-depth interviews with game designers. It’s nice to get them away from the PlayStation for a day, eh?

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Ach, who knows. Why trouble yourself with such questions when you could be having fun with your little one at the Novotel Super Heroes Day (Sat 21 Feb)? It’s full of crafts, baking and adventures, plus there’s a treat or two for grownups. Sounds super to us.

For a good helping of delicious stories and songs, take the kids along to hear Mrs Mash the Storyteller Cook (The Skylark, Mondays). She tells her tales for children aged 4+, so it’s ideal for little people with big imaginations.
