If you’ve been living under a rock and missed the Heated Rivalry hysteria, fear not: Fringe is here with a million (ok, three) musical parodies based on the steamy series. Much of the show’s lore centres around its audience demographic and so we open with a trio of Susans: midwestern housewives who can’t wait for a large white wine and a bit of slow-burn pucking around once the kids have gone to bed. Tone firmly set (very funny lyrics and nothing taking itself too seriously), we’re off to the game.

This show is queer joy on steroids, but there’s also real talent, with an ensemble that clearly knows how to pull out a power play. They’re the icing on a cake made from ingredients like ‘Gym Song’ (chorus: ‘Friday night and it’s getting hot/At the local Marriott’), possibly the Fringe’s greatest ever audience cameo, terrible wigs, multiple Xanax Margaritas, an ass that’s a virtual planetoid with its own weather system, many musical theatre easter eggs, and more anal sex references than you can shake a hockey stick at. Whether this musical has a further life beyond Edinburgh may be debatable, but that’s not the point: enjoy it for what it is, because it’s pretty much pucking perfect.
