Hidden Door announces which venue will host its 2022 festival

The Old Royal High School on Calton Hill is this year's disused space being transformed into a cultural hub
Hidden Door, known for embracing derelict spaces around the city of Edinburgh and turning them into festival-worthy venues, has announced that its 2022 cultural celebration will take place inside the Old Royal High School from Thursday 9 to Saturday 18 June.
This ten-day festival brings the vibrancy of live music, art, dance, theatre and spoken word to otherwise neglected spaces every year, with the aim of resurrecting them to serve today's city dwellers. Previous iterations have taken place at Leith Theatre and north Edinburgh's Granton Gasworks.
Located on the top of Calton Hill at the east end of Princes Street, the Old Royal High School closed its large doors in the late 60s and has lain empty ever since. Over six decades later this beautiful 19th-century building will stage a cultural celebration of Scottish talent before work begins to transform it into the new National Centre For Music.
'It is such a privilege to be able to bring one of Edinburgh's most iconic buildings back to life,' said David Martin, Creative Director of Hidden Door. 'The place is full of surprises, and it lends itself to Hidden Door's ethos of creating an environment that the public can explore and discover new things. We have been inside quite a few times now, with maps and plans, and we still get lost! I can't wait for everyone to get a chance to wander around and get lost too.'
Early bird tickets are available now at hiddendoorarts.org/tickets and the full programme will be announced in February.
