The Three Billy Goats Gruff have relocated to the Tennessee Mountains, in this run re-working of the popular tale. Bored with their field and longing for the sweet green grass across the bridge, little Billy Joe and his two siblings brave the wrath of the nasty troll they’ve heard so much about.

In reality, he’s a pushover dressed in a fluffy brown suit with a penchant for funk. As for the three goats, they’re pure country. Dressed in dungarees, citing Dolly Parton and belting out original toe-tappin’ Country & Western tunes.

Performed by Kipper TIE (the company behind Fringe hit The Mole Who Knew It Was None of His Business) the simple set and minimal props give the show a rather stark feel. But the cast more than compensate with strong characterisation and a laugh-laden script. (Kelly Apter)
