Is there a bigger job in Scotland's music business than overseeing T in the Park and some of the country's best gigs? Probably not. Geoff Ellis, CEO of DF Concerts, takes time out to explain how got to the top – and if you find yourself thinking it sounds like an amazing gig, you're in luck because he's looking for a new PA. Seriously...

When did you start your job?
I first started with DF Concerts in 1992, booking the bands for King Tut's Wah Wah Hut. I became the CEO of DF in 2001.

So what does your job actually involve?
I run a multi-million pound concert, festival, events and venue business. I lead a fantastic team of driven, dynamic people. They have a wide variety of skill sets, working in booking, marketing, finance, concert and event management, ticketing and general administration. I book artists, direct much of the marketing, make some of the sponsorship deals, work out budgets and do financial settlements with artists for major concerts. I have an input into how we manage events as ultimately the buck always stops with me. I also deal with the media as well as working closely with local authorities, emergency services, venues and others to ensure the smooth and safe running of our concerts, festival and events.

Best / worst aspects?
One of the best parts of this job is knowing we have created, and will continue creating, life-affirming experiences for millions of concert and festival goers over the years.

I also love working with the people in my team. They are so creative and enthusiastic – it's very inspiring. At the moment I am looking for a new personal assistant – it's such an important position within the company as my PA keeps me on track, manages my busy diary and ensures that I can do my role effectively. Hopefully we'll find someone who embodies these characteristics and will slot right in to the team.

Like any job, there are of course some mundane tasks too but in all honesty, working in the music industry when music is your passion means there aren't too many bad aspects to it.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your young self at the start of your career?
Always follow your gut instinct – it rarely fails you. And when something doesn't work, don't view it as a failure. Go and try again, and use the experience gained from something that didn't work out to make a success of something else.

And finally ... what has been your biggest achievement in 2016 so far?
We had a fantastic run of shows at Hampden earlier this year, with Beyonce, Rihanna, Coldplay and Bruce Springsteen. Together, they entertained nearly 200,000 people. Knowing we put that together and hopefully gave those people memories they'll cherish forever – that's pretty special.
