Cyril Hahn's is a very modern success story. The Swiss-born, Vancouver-based producer became famous almost overnight after posting a couple of bootleg remixes of Mariah Carey and Destiny's Child to his Soundcloud, and a globetrotting DJ career was in full swing long before he released his first and to-date only EP of original productions. ‘Those bootlegs were really just a way to make ends meet in the beginning,’ Hahn explains. ‘As an unknown producer I just took what I could – in this case a couple of pop a capellas – and did my best to make something new and good with them.’

These days Hahn is more focused on his own productions; the follow-up to last year's 'Perfect Form' EP is underway and will, he says, comprise at least five original tracks. As a DJ he's always sure to play plenty of his own productions, ‘because if I don't people tend to shout at me’, and he tries to find tracks with a similarly smooth, R&B-touched quality to his own to play alongside them. So nobody's going to mistake this for a pounding night at Berghain then? ‘I sure hope not,’ he laughs.

Hahn's show at the Art School is part of the PMR Records Tour, and the night features sets from three other label stalwarts: Lone, T Williams and Javeon. ‘They're all great fun,’ he says. ‘I run into T Williams a lot at festivals and other shows and he's a really great DJ. Lone is a nice contrast to him; his sets are a little more leftfield and incredibly energetic, and I just made a track with Javeon that we'll hopefully get to perform on the night. There's a real family feel at the label and it's going to be great having everyone play together.’
