Last Word - Lorraine Kelly

First record you ever bought
‘School’s Out’ by Alice Cooper. An all-time classic.

Last time you were chatted up
I’m afraid the last time I was chatted up was back in 1986 when Steve (who is now my husband) asked me to go and see Dundee United play Hearts at Tannadice.

First film you saw that really moved you
That would be a re-release of Disney’s Dumbo when I was about five-years-old. I sobbed buckets when Dumbo’s mum sang him a lullaby when she was locked in jail. If I saw it now, I’d be reduced to mush.

Last lie you told
I am always telling myself that the shoes I buy in the sale actually save me money – which is of course a big fat fib.

Last time you cried
I think the sign of a top class comedy series is when it is brave enough to make you cry, like the very last scene of Blackadder when the WWI troops go over the top and the scene of battle fades into poppies. That gets me every time. I saw a re-run of the Frasier episode where Niles had to have heart surgery and blubbed at that.

First thing you do when you’ve got time off work
I tidy all my kitchen cupboards and my knicker drawer. It helps me unwind and is good for the soul.

Last extravagant purchase you made
I am not really into designer gear or labels. My last splurge was our holiday to Japan last year. Steve, Rosie and I went to Kyoto and took the bullet train to Tokyo. It was wonderful and I can’t wait to go back.

First crush
My first crush was on my physics teacher Hamish Sommerville at Claremont High School in East Kilbride. I used to go bright red every time I saw him.

Last book you read
I always have a book in my bag and I re-read a lot of my favourites. I’ve just finished Ernest Shackleton’s South (again). I almost know that book off by heart.

First great piece of advice you were given
My Granny Mac told me to never save anything for best. If you receive perfume or gorgeous clothes, use them right away, and seize the day!

Last time you were star struck
When George Michael came into GMTV. I was a gibbering wreck and came out in one of those nervous red rashes. And I almost cried when kd lang performed live on my show. It was so moving and beautiful. I was a complete star struck fan.

First thing you’d do if you ran the country
I would employ a squadron of dedicated older workers to sort out the cleanliness of our hospitals and give them dignity and a proper wage. I would also demand that the giant corporations who control our oil, gas and electricity plough some of their profits back into reducing bills for the elderly and those who can’t afford to pay.

First song you’ll sing at karaoke
It has to be ‘Finally’ by Ce Ce Peniston – camp as Christmas and great fun to sing – especially if you do the actions from Priscilla Queen Of The Desert.

First three words your friends would use to describe you
Loyal, generous, reliable.

First thing you think of when you wake up in the morning
Bloody hell, it’s early. (I am usually up at 5.30am).

Lorraine presents GMTV`s LK Today and writes weekly columns for The Sun, and The Sunday Post (Scotland). Her autobiography Lorraine: Between You and Me is out now and published by Headline.
