Aside from offering MC Gingzilla a chance to run a little wilder than in Glamonster vs the World, Late Night Lip Service is a raucous cabaret evening that doesn't overdose on burlesque and waves a flag for queer performance. The rotating line-up has certain regular guests and an audience that has clearly come back for more.

Gingezilla's interludes are anarchic, setting a tone that not all the acts can match: character comedy can feel laboured, the musical interludes twee and the more nuanced routines slow. Yummy, however, capture the fierce mood perfectly and the atmosphere rarely falters for long. The excitement is driven by the audience, who howl appreciatively at every opportunity and give Gingzilla the admiration she clearly desires and deserves. In turn, Gingezilla is willing to get down and dirty, even inventing a stadium-rock version of the classic balloon pop burlesque.

The queerness isn't always exact – the audience participation interlude featuring two dancing women reeks of Club 18-30 drunken decadence and the atmosphere is more drunken hedonism than the tough challenging of heteronormativity. Without having the aggressive feeling of the old bear-pit late night comedies, LNLS does serve up a bawdy, celebratory night of chaos and entertainment.
