Lavigne and Muse reign supreme at MTV awards in Munich

Pop star Avril Lavigne took home two honours from last night’s MTV Europe Awards, while hotly tipped Justin Timberlake left empty handed.

The 23-year-old won the prize for Most Addictive Track with Girlfriend, as well as taking the Solo Artist of 2007 award.

On stage at the ceremony in Munich, she said: ‘It’s an honour to have you guys all the way in Europe listening to my music. It’s crazy.’

Fellow Canadian Nelly Furtado won the Album of the Year award for Loose.

Muse matched Lavigne’s two awards, winning best UK and Ireland act and best headline act.

Justin Timberlake received the most award nominations, but failed to top up his collection of gongs.

The event in city’s OlympiaHalle was hosted by US rapper Snoop Dogg and featured performances from Mika, the Foo Fighters, Babyshambles and, as a late addition to the bill, Amy Winehouse.

The soul singer sang Back to Black and took home the Artists’ Choice award.
