The appropriately named Oscar welcomes you to his makeshift living room, and proudly boasts that he has every movie in the world at his disposal. After receiving a few suggestions of which type of movie to watch, he serendipitously produces the very movie that was just suggested (tonight, an epic gladiatorial disaster movie called ‘Maced in the Back’), and presses play on his remote control – the cue for the rest of the Scat Pack to spring into action and improvise the movie on stage.

While the word ‘improv’ can inspire dread in the hearts of many reviewers, this show succeeds, largely down to the strictness of setting: Oscar pauses, plays, rewinds, and even jumps to special features at various points, bringing up deleted scenes and clips from stars’ other movies mid-flow – it’s the perfect set-up for the channel-hopping YouTube generation. The only thing stopping the show being five-star brilliant is the performers’ lack of total interaction: they’re all very funny in their own right, but by failing to really riff on each other’s performances, the whole thing never amounts to more than the sum of its (admittedly great) parts.
