Madame Martha's After Dark: The Parisian Cabaret review – A dazzling spectacle

Stepping into Madame Martha’s After Dark is like diving headfirst into a dazzling dream of sequins, satire and sheer spectacle. This underground Parisian cabaret, led by three mesmerising drag queens, is unapologetically French: there’s even a baguette as a prop. With burlesque, powerhouse vocals, and piano and accordion melodies, the trio ignite the stage, seamlessly blending Moulin Rouge-style glamour with impeccably synchronised choreography, creating a fusion of elegance and irreverence.

But beyond the glitter and grandeur, Madame Martha’s also delves into deeper themes, playfully yet poignantly exploring gender identity. Through wit, charm, and raw emotion, the performers challenge traditional notions of masculinity and femininity, adding depth to the spectacle. What elevates this show though is the undeniable chemistry between the performers. Each queen has enough charisma and talent to own the stage; together, they create magic. Their distinct voices and movements intertwine, making a performance that’s as cohesive as it is exhilarating. With dramatic pauses, stunning costumes, and choreography that would make Bob Fosse proud, it’s a daring, dazzling and unforgettable cabaret.

Madame Martha's After Dark: The Parisian Cabaret, Gluttony, until Sunday 9 March, 10pm.
