Meet the warring heroes in Captain America: Civil War

The Avengers are split in two but who will win: team Captain America or team Iron Man?
Obviously we don't want to get too spoilery, but as pretty much every film fan already knows, Captain America: Civil War features an all-out showdown between Captain America and Iron Man. It splits the Avengers right down the middle for the biggest superhero clash in cinematic history. Captain America is joined by Ant-Man, The Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, Falcon, Scarlet Witch and Agent 13. On Iron Man's side: War Machine, Black Widow, Black Panther, Spider-Man and Vision. We compare and contrast their abilities to see who has the edge on paper.
Team Captain America
Captain America
The personification of the American dream, so it's surprising to find Cap standing against the government due to his loyalty to old army buddy Bucky Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier). Having been frozen since World War II, only to be defrosted just in time for the first Avengers movie, Steve Rodgers has constantly found his old-fashioned ideals don't match the dirty tricks of modern espionage. A passionate, inspirational leader who goes with his gut.
Played by: Chris Evans
Powers: Enhanced strength, speed, endurance and reactions after being injected with the Super Solider serum.
Power level: 8
Ant-Man
Scott Lang is an ex-con turned tiny superhero who still packs a powerful punch but refuses to take life too seriously. His shrinking abilities are perfect for spy work and infiltration.
Played by: Paul Rudd
Powers: Can shrink to microscopic size
Power level: 7
The Winter Soldier
Cap's loyalty to Bucky is the reason the Avengers fall apart. He's committed some truly appalling crimes while working as a brainwashed secret agent for the KGB. One of the best fighters in the MCU with rage issues to match, making him unpredictable and dangerous in battle.
Played by: Sebastian Stan
Powers: Trained by the KGB to be the ultimate assassin complete with a cybernetic arm
Power level: 8
Hawkeye
Hawkeye will be torn by his close relationship with Black Widow but he's the best shot in the world providing cover and tactical advice to Cap's team.
Played by: Jeremy Renner
Powers: Preternatural sharp shooter
Power level: 7
Falcon
Trained by the military to the highest level, Falcon is another of Cap's closest allies. Perfect for air support.
Played by: Anthony Mackie
Powers: Flight
Power level: 6.5
Scarlet Witch
We haven't seen the full extent of Wanda Maximoff's powers in the MCU as yet. In the comics she can alter reality with a single thought, she's one of the most powerful Avengers and could turn the tide in Cap's favour.
Played by: Elizabeth Olsen
Powers: Magic, telekinesis, mind control
Power level: 9
Agent 13
Her SHIELD and CIA training will help provide essential strategy and espionage skills.
Played by: Emily VanCamp
Powers: Agent 13 doesn't have any super powers but is a fully trained secret agent.
Power level: 5
Team Iron Man
Iron Man
He used to be the joker on the team but after the Ultron disaster in the last Avengers outing he's got serious. Unsurprisingly he thinks all superhumans should be registered. A genius billionaire with unlimited resources plus the US government and military on his side, Iron Man will be hard to beat.
Played by: Robert Downey Jr
Powers: Flight and repulsor rays
Power level: 9.5
War Machine
One of Stark's oldest friends, his military training and War Machine suit make him a force to be reckoned with. Think Iron Man with added missiles and machine guns.
Played by: Don Cheadle
Powers: A souped-up version of the Iron Man suit with added fire-power
Power level: 8
Black Widow
A product of Russia's infamous Red Room programme, Black Widow has been training to be an assassin since she was a small child. Perhaps the best secret agent in the business.
Played by: Scarlett Johansson
Powers: Top level hand-to-hand and firearms expert
Power level: 7.5
Black Panther
A new addition to the MCU, the prince of Wakanda is an unknown quantity. The ruler of a technologically advanced African nation, Black panther possesses an intellect to match his fighting skills. His vibranium claws can even damage Cap's shield.
Played by: Chadwick Boseman
Powers: Fast and strong plus a suit complete with claws and tech
Power level: 8
Spider-Man
Another newbie, Spider-Man might be young but in a straight test of strength and speed Spider-Man is a real contender.
Played by: Tom Holland
Powers: Proportional strength, speed and agility of a spider. Plus he can walk up walls
Power level: 8.5
Vision
With Hulk and Thor on sabbatical, Vision is the most powerful player on the board. Almost invulnerable to attack due to his vibranium body and the ability to phase through objects, he can project devastating energy blasts, control computers, possesses Hulk-level strength and can fly. Vision could be the player that turns the entire battle.
Played by: Paul Bettany
Powers: Omnipotent being
Power level: 10
Final score: Captain America 50.5; Iron Man 51.5
It's close but Iron Man has the upper hand. But never underestimate Captain America's resolve in his guerilla war against his old team-mate. Catch Captain America: Civil War at cinemas on Fri 29 Apr to find out who wins.
