The Usher Hall has announced the full line-up of events scheduled to mark its centenary year, with comedy, classical and rock acts coming together to celebrate. Arthur Smith, Mogwai, the Vienna Tonkunstler Orchestra and Rufus Wainwright are among the acts gathering to wish happy 100th birthday to the historic venue, which has previously played host to Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash and The Rolling Stones.

Rufus Wainwright will play the venue on Wed 5 March, ahead of the 100th Birthday Concert on Thu 6 Mar. This official celebration will replicate the programme of the opening night in 1914, with orchestral performances of Wagner, Rachmaninov and Beethoven.

On Fri 7 Mar, The Gilded Comedy Gala, hosted by Arthur Smith, will feature the comedic talents of Smack the Pony’s Doon MacKichan, Never Mind the Buzzcocks panellist Phill Jupitus, official Grumpy Old Man Barry Cryer and Scotland’s own Greg McHugh in character as Gary Tank Commander.

Mogwai head a spectacular line-up of Glasgow rock and pop talent on Sat 8 Mar, with support from The Pastels and Remember Remember. On the final night of the programme, the Vienna Tonkunstler Orchestra will be conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada through a programme of Kodaly, Rachmaninov and Beethoven.
