Aberdeenshire
South Mains and Steading at Craigievar Castle
The fairytale pink castle of Craigievar is among Scotland’s most well-preserved tower houses. It appeared in The Last of the Blonde Bombshells, a TV movie featuring the Oscar-winning Judi Dench and Lord of the Rings star Ian Holm. The fine example of Baronial architecture is surrounded by extensive parkland, and is home to original Jacobean woodwork. Anyone wishing to wake up to views of the pretty estate can choose between three charming cottages in the grounds.

Cairngorms
Mar Lodge Estate Apartments
Situated in the breathtaking Cairngorms, with a wealth of wildlife roaming about, it’s no wonder this estate, which has been visited by nobility since the medieval period, was selected as the location for BBC’s Winterwatch in 2014 and 2015. The varied accommodation options include five apartments in the lodge itself and two self-contained luxury grounds houses.

Edinburgh & the Lothians
The Gladstone Flat
Situated next to Edinburgh Castle on the Royal Mile, Gladstone’s Land is often described as a hidden gem. The beautiful building dates as far back as 1550. Since rescuing it from demolition in the 1930s, the National Trust for Scotland has restored the interiors of the first two floors to their 17th century appearance, giving visitors an insight into how the citizens of the capital once lived. The property was also featured in Sean Connery’s Edinburgh, a documentary in which the beloved actor provides impressions of the city he was born in. The holiday accommodation is located in the upper floors and sleeps two people.

Fife
St Andrew’s House, Falkland
Dating from the 17th century, this house lies at the heart of the village of Falkland, a key filming location for hit US TV show Outlander. It was built overlooking the gardens of Falkland Palace, and guests are provided with a complimentary visit to the palace and grounds, as well as two twin bedrooms, and wonderful views of the royal building.

Glasgow, Ayrshire & Argyll
Culzean Castle
Culzean was designed by Robert Adam in the 1770s and remains one of the most iconic historic buildings in Scotland, not least because it was used in cult 70s horror movie The Wicker Man as the exterior of Lord Summerisle’s castle. The cliff-top location makes it an incredibly memorable place to stay and with a number of accommodation options, from the old brewhouse in the west wing to seashore cottages, there’s no reason not to take a trip there.

The Hill House Apartment
Fans of the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh shouldn’t pass up the chance to stay in one of his masterpieces. Commissioned by Walter Blackie at the start of the 20th century, the Scottish architect designed the striking house and its interiors. Hollywood royalty Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt visited the house in 2011 while they were in Scotland for the filming of zombie blockbuster World War Z. Those who wish to holiday at Hill House can stay in the apartment on the top floor, which sleeps six.
