They're alive, damnit! Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 4 (30 May), starring the perpetually perky Ellie Kemper, returns with six new episodes, with another six to be released later in 2018. Season 4 picks up right where we left off, as the indomitable trio try their hand at new endeavours – Columbia drop-out Kimmy starts her job at a tech company, while Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) works her wiles as a talent agent, and Titus (Tituss Burgess) goes to absurd lengths to win back the heart of his construction worker beau, Mikey. Here's to hoping for more musical numbers (à la Pinot Noir) in their future.

Dear White People: Volume 2 (4 May) is also back with its incisive blend of social commentary and satirical humour, as romantic entanglements and Internet trolls roil both the personal and the political at Winchester University. True crime enthusiasts can sate their morbid curiosity with Evil Genius: The True Story of America's Most Diabolical Bank Heist (11 May), but never fear, because Bill Nye Saves the World (11 May) in his new season that delves into the future of food and the science behind addition. Bill! Bill! Bill! Bill!

Speaking of icons, a slew of new stand-up takes the stage this month, such as Steve Martin and Martin Short's double-act in their Netflix special An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life (May 25). Other comedic offerings include John Mulaney's Kid Gorgeous (1 May); more hard and hysterical truths about parenting from Ali Wong in Hard Knock Wife (13 May); and musings on identity politics and mangos in Warn Your Relatives with Hari Kondabolu (8 May).

A slate of Netflix-produced films will also be making their debut this month, with post-apocalyptic horror Cargo (18 May), which follows a father's desperate search across rural Australia for a new home for his daughter before he succumbs to the disease that has ravaged the rest of the world, as well as the comedy Ibiza (25 May) starring Gillian Jacobs, who throws caution into the wind and falls for an attractive DJ. In other film releases, Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise (1 May) – the first documentary about the remarkable life of the writer, poet and activist – will appear in Netflix queues this month, feel-good romp The Intern (13 May); The Social Network (18 May), and Marilyn Monroe's sizzling classic Some Like It Hot (1 May).
