There are several original series returning to Netflix this month. BoJack Horseman: Season 5 (14 Sep) (read review) finds our animated equine actor back on TV in a new detective series, Philbert, produced by Princess Carolyn. The story of Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist), a teenager on the autistic spectrum, continues in coming-of-age drama Atypical: Season 2 (7 Sep). Of all the Marvel series Iron Fist probably had the worst reception, season 2 (7 Sep) finds the master of kung fu Danny Rand (Finn Jones) back on the streets of New York and sees the introduction of fan favourite villain Typhoid Mary (Alice Eve). And if you need an even bigger Marvel fix all three Iron Man movies (1 Sep) and Doctor Strange (24 Sep) are also available.

The politically charged American Horror Story: Cult (8 Sep); quirky anthology Inside No.9: Season 3 (21 Sep); foodie favourite Chef's Table: Volume 5 (28 Sep) and afterlife sitcom The Good Place (also 28 Sep) also return.

New series making their debut in September include Maniac (21 Sep), a dark comedy directed by Cary Fukunaga (True Detective) and starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill as two patients taking part in a pharmaceutical drug trial, which looks wonderfully weird and visually stunning; and The Good Cop (21 Sep) which finds Josh Groban (!) playing a by-the-books police officer who turns to his rule breaking ex-cop father (Tony Danza) for advice.

There's a double bill of Netflix original horror / thrillers as Hold the Dark and The 3rd Eye are released on the same day (28 Sep). For a complete change of pace high school romcom Sierra Burgess is a Loser (7 Sep) finds Shannon Purser (Stranger Things' Barb) attempting to win over the boy she loves from afar. Also don't miss feature length doc Quincy (21 Sep) about the life and work of outspoken music producer Quincy Jones, directed by his daughter Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation).
