House of Cards was probably the first series that proved Netflix could make great original content that could stand alongside the traditional TV networks. Unfortunately some unpleasant allegations against Kevin Spacey means he won't be returning but Robin Wright will take the lead for the sixth and final season (2 Nov) of this gripping political thriller. A more recent Netflix home-grown hit is Narcos about America's war on the South American drug gangs, and the fourth season (Narcos: Mexico, 16 Nov) finds the DEA taking on the Guadalajara Cartel. And a brand new Netflix series The Kominsky Method (16 Nov) stars Michael Douglas as an actor turned acting coach was created by comedy powerhouse Chuck Lorre (Mike & Molly, Two and a Half Men, Big Bang Theory).

Outlaw King (read review) premieres on 9 Nov an epic retelling of the story and legend of Robert the Bruce with Chris Pine taking the title role (and featuring probably the most talked-about cock shot of recent years). The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (read review) started life as a wild west TV series from the Coen brothers but over the last year or so has morphed into a movie, though we're happy to watch anything produced by the Coens in any shape or form. And if you hadn't realised Christmas is a comin' with Angela's Christmas (1 Nov) based on a story by Frank McCourt; magical romcom The Holiday Calendar (2 Nov); Kurt Russell family adventure Christmas Chronicles (22 Nov) and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding (30 Nov) all hitting the streaming service this November.

It's also a strong month for sci-fi with the original RoboCop (1 Nov), Arrival (11 Nov), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (11 Nov), Passengers (21 Nov) and a new series of Mystery Science Theatre 3000: The Gauntlet (22 Nov). If you prefer fantasy you're in luck as Peter Jackson's sublime Lord of the Rings trilogy drops on 1 Nov.
